Ssangyong KYRON

Introduction

SsangYong Kyron is a mid-size SUV which is equipped with a Mercedes Benz diesel engine. After Rexton W the brand continued the designing of SUVs and their next inception was the Kyron. SsangYong gave it a name which means 'infinite run' and to justify that encased a decent amount of power into the car. The SUV received certain facelifts after being introduced and comes with decent variants.

Engine, Mileage and Variants

Kyron offers 2 types of powerful engines in the country, a 2.0 litre Diesel engine and a 2.3 litre Petrol engine. The 2.0 litre diesel engine delivers a maximum output of 138 PS at 4000 rpm with a maximum torque of 310 Nm in between 1800- 2750 rpm. However, the 2.3 litre petrol engine churns out a maximum power output of 149.5 PS at 5500 rpm with the part time 4WD along with a maximum torque of 214 Nm in between 3500- 4600 rpm whereas with the 2WD, the maximum power output becomes 220.3 PS at 6100 rpm along with a maximum torque of 312 Nm at 4600 rpm. Fuel economy wise the SUV gives a mileage of 12.9 kmpl with the 2.0 litre diesel engine and 12.4 kmpl with the 2.3 litre petrol engine. The SUV accelerates from a stand still to 100 kmph in less than 15 seconds with the diesel engine and in mere 10.2 seconds with the petrol engine. All in all, performance wise the SUV delivers an impressive one taking into consideration its size and volume.

Exteriors

SsangYong has always made a point in its car designs to provide a distinction from the regular looks other rival SUVs possess. Kyron has been given a distinct look from the front with a curvy slant bonnet, chrome finished radiator grille, and strong character lines running from the window panels till the body colored bumper giving it a curvy outward edge. Sleek body line detailing is also given over the fenders and a bold one on the side chrome door handles which continues to the rear above the wide tail lamps giving the rear tail gate a distinct design. The tail gate glass has a curvy shape, the exhaust pipe has chrome finish and the roof rails are all black strong and classy. The SUV stands at 4660 mm x 1880 mm x 1755 mm (L x W x H) with a wheelbase dimension of 2740mm. Wheels of the SUV are sporty looking Alloys with a Rim size ranging from 16 inch to 18 inch in a 5 spoke design which differs in every wheel dimension.

Interiors

Wide and spacious cabin area with comfortable leather seats and all black tone design gives a sportier and gracious look to the inside. The driver seat is 8-way power adjustable with the front passenger seat 4-way power adjustable which adds to the comfort along with adjustable front and rear headrests and power heating technology. Just like the exteriors, the interior design is also distinct with a non-symmetrical center console with centre storage armrest and distinctly mounted control buttons on the 4 spoke steering wheel. The Audio unit has CD player and FM/Radio supports with circular bunch of control buttons adding to the distinct look. The rear row seats are foldable into a 60:40 split with foldable center armrest adding to the 625 litres of boot space which can accommodate huge storage material.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous

The SUV has front and rear ventilated disc brakes accompanied by 4-channel ABS, ESP, HDC and ARP which provide a comfortable smooth experience while off-roading. Dual front air bags, front and rear curtain air bags and door impact beams provide a wide range of safety to the occupants if any collision happens. Other than this, a rear obstacle warning system with 3 stage alarm, front and rear fog lamps, Electrochromatic rear view mirror, a high mounted brake lamp, Child lock and belt adjusters, speed sensors and reminders for seat belts are the additional safety features provided for optimum safety and comfort.
