Porsche Macan

Introduction

Since its launch at 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, this high end luxury crossover is one the favorite luxury SUV in the segment. The Macan was originally known by its code name Cajun The word Macan was taken from the Bahasa Indonesia meaning Tiger. In Sri Lanka, Porsche is sold by Eurocars (Private) Limited since 1996. Known for high performance engines, outstanding handling characteristics and classic design, Porsche's always incorporate the latest in automotive technology and many times Porsche actually invents the technology that everyone else adopts later. Macan is the latest offering by Porsche stable after a long time.

Engine, mileage & variants

Macan comes in four variants Macan, Macan S, Macan GTS and Macan Turbo. The Macan is powered by a 237 hp V6 diesel, Macan S is 340 hp v6 petrol, Macan GTS 400 hp v6petrol and the Turbo which gives superb output of 400hp at 6000 rpm which makes it very powerful. Also not to forget it gives impressive torque of 550 Nm which accelerate the car from stand still to 100 kmph in just 4.8 sec which is very good for a SUV. This Porsche has dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission which is similar to other Porsche family cars and its one of the best automatics around. Being an SUV with so much power under-hood its economy of 8.4 kmpl is justifiable. Its top speed is 266 kmph making it one of the fastest SUV in its segment.

Exteriors

Based on the structure of Audi’s Q5 it doesn't look it. Talking about the dimension its 4699 mm x 1923 mm x 1624 mm (L x W x H) with wheelbase of 2807 mm. Porsche provides two set of tyres summer and all season tires with rim size ranging from 18-21 inch and tyre size from 235/60 R18 to 295/35 R21 respectively. It’s arguably one of the most attractive non-sports car in the line-up, and looks compact and neatly proportioned in a way the bigger Cayenne doesn’t. The bonnet design & lights of the Macan is inspired by the Porsche Cayman, horizontal blades in the front gives it a sporty look, in the rear the tail-lights are nicely built, with the 4 exhaust outlets two on each side with chrome finish gives it muscular look. Overall, like the other Porsche the Macan too has a sporty look ,which has become trademark of Porsche.

Interiors

Inside, you can see Porsche's immaculate standards. You get the same driver-focused cockpit as Porsche’s other models. To make the ambiance look premium Porsche has used lined leather in its seat cover, top is fabricated with alacantara. On dashboard we can see clever use of brushed aluminum and piano black finish. Porsche has also given panoramic roof system, which is common in this segment car nowadays. Standard kit includes eight-way adjustable electric seats, automatic air-conditioning, parking sensors and a DAB radio. Also on board is the Bose 5.1 Surround Sound System, which offers premium 360° listening enjoyment for all passengers. The Macan's boot space is 500 liters while you've got the rear seats up, which is large looking at its size, you get extra 1500 liters of space after folding seats down. That means that despite its relatively sporty shape, the Macan is a genuinely spacious car, with room for a family and a large suitcase .

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous

Like every other Porsche out there the Macan performs well in safety. It’s also the only Porsche that have been was given a full five-star rating by EURO NCAP. The car is equipped with ESP(electronic stability program) and front collision warning sensors as standard. Air bags are given on the front as well as on the rear to improve safety of the passenger and driver. At the front, the Macan is equipped with four-piston aluminum mono bloc fixed brake calipers. The brake discs are internally vented for consistently high braking power even during continuous use.

Verdict

Its not a conventional SUV ,its a sports car inside SUV body. There are very few rivals, but no one gives such a mix of luxury, power and speed. Or in more simple language ,there is nothing else like it.
