BMW X4

Introduction:

Capabilities of an SUV and comfort of a sedan, the BMW has introduced yet another sensational model in the much acclaimed X series to further boost the market share of the X models across the globe. Since its inception in 2013, the car has been tested in different geographies and with a significant reputation gained by X4, the coupe styled crossover is all set to attract customers of Sri Lanka in an effective manner.

Engine, Mileage & variants:

The X4 is offered with a choice of three petrol and two diesel engines each being potent enough to thrill you. The maximum power across all the petrol engines measures 306 hp at 5800 to 6400 rpm along side the maximum torque of 400 Nm at mere 1200 to 5000 rpm, delivered by 3.0 litre 6 cylinder engine. The diesel engines further increase the power output and maximum power across the two engines is delivered by 3.0 litre 6 cylinder engine which measures 258 hp at 4000 rpm alongside maximum torque of 560 Nm at 1500 to 3000 rpm. The car is agile enough and reaches the 100 kmph mark from 0 in an impressive time span of 5.2 seconds (3.0 L Diesel). The advanced technology deployed in the engine results in enhanced fuel economy and the best mileage across all the engine measures 20 kmpl (2.0 L Diesel).

Exteriors:

The independent self image of X4 is quite evident form its wide stance and elegant silhouette. The sporty bumpers, extremely muscular arches and broad shoulder line further emphasize the X genes of the Sports Activity Coupe in an effective manner. The overall dimensions of the car measures 4671 mm X 1881 mm X 1624 mm (L X W X H) and the wheelbase measures 2810 mm that makes provision for ample cabin space. The deployment of 17 inch alloy wheels with tyre size measuring 225/ 60 R17 and a ground clearance of 204 mm further improves the off- roading capabilities of X4 in an effective manner.

Interiors:

Exclusive interior, unique surround sound and an outstanding sensation of space, the ambiance within the X4 is full of calm and peace. The sporty leather interior of the new crossover gives a clear evidence of the perfection it is made with. Sport leather steering wheel and sporty gear shifter creates a dynamic imprint in ones mind. The center console also comes with an efficient 8 inch screen, which again act as an infotainment system for the car. Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous:

The smooth and hassle free handling of X4 is the result of combination of McPherson Strut suspension at front and Multi-link suspension to rear. The brakes used in the X4 are ventilated disc type both at the rear as well as to the front with Anti- Lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution System (EBD) to ensure effective braking. The utilization of advanced safety features has been a prominent methodology adopted by BMW and the same is reflected by X4, as it is equipped with traction control, driving assistant, air bags system (front, side and curtain) and intelligent emergency call that enhance the protection level of the occupants in an efficient manner.

Verdict:

The spacious cabin, great driving position and thrilling performance makes X4 a winner in various aspects. But, the unorthodox look, and higher pricing makes the other competitors position slightly higher than X4 in the Sri Lankan market.
