Tata Indigo eCS

Introduction :

The India's largest automobile manufacturer, after the sublime success of Indigo launched its Indigo CS which was later renamed as Indigo eCS. It innate the derivative of Indigo with a length of under 4 meters. Later the car got engine upgrade in 2010. Initially it was launched as a segment between hatchback and full fledged sedan while technically being referred as Sedan aimed for the buyers seeking an inexpensive three box car at price of hatchback. With its launch it became one of the shortest Sedan on offer and equipped with the 1.3 liter TDI turbocharged diesel engine. The current Indigo eCS introduces the more pronounced design and aesthetic interior styling. Further the company also introduced variants with factory-fitted CNG kits as Indigo eCS e-Max.

Engine, Mileage and its variants :

The more impressive styling and meticulously crafted silhouette makes the new Indigo eCS more attractive and enthralls onlookers. It is available in six variants : LS, LX, VX, GLS, GLX and GVX which is available with the choice of diesel and petrol engines.

The 1396 cc CR4 diesel engine generates the power of 69 hp at 4000 rpm with peak torque of 140 Nm at 1800-3000 rpm.

The 1405 cc TDI BS3 engine generates the power of 69 hp with peak torque of 135 Nm at 2500 rpm.

The 1193 cc MPFI petrol engine generates the power of 64 hp at 5000 rpm with peak torque of 100 Nm at 2700 rpm.

The all new power train redefines the performance cranking out the better torque on lower end. The advanced F-shift Gearbox makes coasting through city traffic a breeze while the comfortable and smooth ride is ensured with load distribution along the constituent elements. Along with the quite linear drive quality it offers the smooth gear shifting which enhances the comfort at ride with its five speed gearbox. For every liter of diesel the car goes for 14.7 kmph in traffic and 17.9 km on highway. It manages to pull the car from rest to 100 kmph within 16.7 secs.

Exteriors :

Indigo eCS makes the bold statement with the newly proposed styling featuring redesigned body panel and chrome insert on front grille. The diamond chromed grille, body colour rub-rails with chrome inserts, smoked headlamps placed laterally makes the front fascia impressive while chrome strip on hood and sporty dual tone bumpers flaunts the athletic prowess. The front fog lamp are ringed in chrome color to enhance the visibility while the side profile splays the impression with delicately carved creases and smooth edge corners. The remarkable set of exterior key features portrays the subtle features of car and makes it the distinctive from it predecessor justifying with expectation of its buyers. The economical compact range sedan measures as 3988 x 1620 x 1540 mm ( L X W X H ) with wheelbase of 2450 mm which amount 50 mm longer than its previous version.

Interiors :

The interior is kept in dual tone theme which is exhibited with distinctively colour coding for seats, dashboard, roof lining and door panels while some of the interior styling changes makes it look more logical and comfortable to sit inside. The Sahara Beige fabric upholstery and dual tone interior with beige tones and jet black looks attractive with 4 spoke steering wheel and theater dimming interior light. The octa-instrument cluster is meticulously arranged to give easy access while premium finish center console looks quite decent and offer the easy to keep facility. The octagon instrument dials, parking sensors, auto down power window mirror, and advanced stereo makes the sheaf of features. The cockpit and rear cabin seats offers the ample legroom while it is overall built to accommodate five passenger at a time with much ease. The perfectly located air conditioning vents allows you to travel longs with comfort while 380 liter of healthy bootspace gives the ample space to keep luggage.

Safety, Brakes and Miscellaneous :

The easy to drive Indigo eCS is equipped with front ventilated disc brakes for front and drum brakes for rear which renders the complete control over vehicle. The fine suspension system allows to control the vehicle without skidding. The smooth ride is ensured with McPherson strut with anti-roll bar for rear and McPherson Strut with coil spring for front which absorbs the bumps of uneven roads. The brake system is equipped with the ABS that prevents the wheel from getting locked in panic braking. To other safety features includes central locking, key-less entry system, LED stop lamps, seat belt warning system and child safety lock on rear doors.

Verdict :

The newly proposed design makes it one of the best option in its segments with decent mileage and improved handling characteristics in economical price. The lack of safety features and comparatively along with dull interior quality accounts as the drawback of this compact Sedan.
